North Dakota's 31st Governor is a native of Minot. Governor Hoeven graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1979 from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and majors in history and economics. He also holds the Degree of Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University in Evanston Illinois (1981). After completing college and graduate school, he returned home to become actively involved in the family business, the First Western Bank of Minot. From 1986 to 1993 he worked in the position of Executive Vice President of the bank, and was responsible for overseeing the bank's day-to-day operations. During his tenure, the bank doubled its size, bringing on many new products and services for its customers. In May 1993, Governor Hoeven was appointed the President and CEO of the Bank of North Dakota. Since 1993, the bank has grown from $900 to $1.6 billion and the loan portfolio has grown from $200 to more than $1 billion invested in business, agricultural, educational and residential loans throughout North Dakota. BND is projected to inject $50 million into the state General Fund this biennium. Prior to his election in 2000, Governor Hoeven served on a variety of community committees including:
