Trails on School Trust Lands

School trust lands are open to non-vehicular public access. In some places there are trails on these lands which are necessary for land management purposes. These trails are not considered to be "established trails". The potential for traffic on school trust lands is high and the Land Department is not in a position to maintain trails or to control erosion that might result from unrestricted use. We also must consider the safety of our lessees' personal property. These lands are dedicated to producing income for the schools and designated institutions of North Dakota through grazing and haying.

You may not drive on school lands. Legal access can usually be obtained via public roads and section lines. Park your vehicle and walk when hunting or retrieving game on the school trust lands.
