The proposed Fees Policy and Continuing Appropriation Authority Policy were presented to the Board of University and School Lands (Board) on May 28, 2020, for the first reading and will be presented to the Board at the Board’s June 25, 2020 meeting for the second reading.  The policies will become effective after the second reading in accordance with the Board’s policy titled Policy Introduction/Amendment/Passage.  Comments will be accepted by the Department of Trust Lands through 5:00 p.m. on June 17, 2020.  Comments must be in writing and submitted to the Department of Trust Lands at

August 2020 EnergyNet Oil and Gas Lease Auction

The nomination deadline for the August 2020 OG Lease Auction is June 19th, 2020.

EnergyNet will begin auctioning the approved nominated tracts beginning on July 28th through August 4th.

Through Governor Burgum's Executive Order on April 8, 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Department of Trust Lands held their spring surface lease auction online with EnergyNet.  


To participate in the leasing please Register to bid.  You may do so at any time prior to bidding.

Available Unleased Tracts

The first bidder to offer minimum rent will be the successful bidder and will be notified via email with closing instructions, including total amount due.

Payment to the State of North Dakota must be confirmed by email to on the day of the sale, and a check mailed within 24 hours. Please make checks payable to the Department of Trust Lands.

A 3% convenience fee will be assessed; this 3% fee is only on the first year's rent.
